When Gucci Mane and Metro Boomin announced the apparently named “So Icey Boyz Album”, I was ecstatic. I remember first hearing Metro on Trap God “Dead Man (Ft. Young Scooter)” and honestly I didn’t think he was anything special. But when Gucci Mane dropped “Trap Back 2” with Metro producing “White Man” and “Iron on Me” I knew Metro would eventually become a legend. While Gucci Mane was doing his 3 – year bid, Metro was steadying improving and diversifying his sound. Today, Metro Boomin has become one of the most prolific and successful producers in the industry at the age of 23.
What I hope to hear from “So Icey Boyz Album” is quality. According to Gucci the project is already done and Metro is sitting on it. Personally, I think Metro is just adding the finishing touches to the tape so we will have the same quality as “Savage Mode”. What I don’t want is another “Free Bricks 2: Zone 6 Edition”. That mixtape had so much potential from to two rap superstars, yet that was both Gucci Mane’s and Future’s weakest projects of 2016. Everything about that mixtape from the cover art to the instrumentals was rushed and so many fans were left disappointed with that tape. I want to hear the best of Gucci Mane and Metro Boomin on this project and they live up to the name of “So Icey Boyz”.
